It's very good to have this forum here. My aunt just had a baby using eggs they took out of her when she had cancer. the eggs were frozen somewhere, I don't know where, and then she lived after the cancer and they got the eggs and now she has a baby and i have a cousen! Everybody is quite happy and say its a miracle that she lived and now she has a baby.

My aunt and new neice continue to do well. And now I'm going to try ivf. Took me quite a while to be comfortable with this step. I don't know, guess it was my upbringing. And I think if my aunt had not used these treatments as part of her cancer treatments, our family would still be suspicious of them. But the cancer seems to have changed everyone's minds. Or opened them up.
best to all,

Did you take any precautions before treatment to safeguard your organs?

I don't know for sure but I imagine it is difficult to use safeguards when the treatment involves chemotherapy. It would seem that stuff must go everywhere. Radiation perhaps can be a bit more targeted. What I wonder about is do these treatments actually kill the eggs and/or sperm. Is there the potential to leave them still live but damaged?

It is difficult to worry about reproductive organs when you are fighting cancer. In my experience the cancer doctors are focused on maximizing the treatments, and not so much about safeguarding organs. And frankly it's hard to ask them about taking precautions. One told me he was not so concerned about whether or not I'd be able to have a family afterward, but just to save my life.
That's the way it is out there.
