Success Story
I just read about a woman who survived breast cancer in her 20s and had several babies in her late 30s. Seems before the cancer treatment they removed some of her ovarian tissue and froze it. I am interested in hearing more stories like that, especially if the same procedure might work somehow for men? I may in a similar situation. Not cancer exactly, but a condition that may result in permenant damage. I'd just like to know if there's anything I can do now.

I'm not sure how timely this will be for you, but maybe I can share our experience. When J. was diagnosed with cancer, thinking about freezing sperm or other measures was the last thing on his mind. This was last year and similar procedures had just become available for men. But you have to look for them. We found someone online and had to travel. (And again, it was not easy making all those arrangments at the same time J was thinking about the cancer treatments coming too). But we did and I definitely believe it was the right choice. Now he is in recovery (fingers-crossed!!!) We haven't taken advantage of the frozen thing yet, but they think if we want to get pregnant with our own child that's the only way we'll do it. It's just good to know we have the choice if we want to. I can see it in J's eyes. At least there is a chance. If we did not have the option now, I think it could be very hard.

The fact is when you hear you have cancer it's so big you can't see past it. J. said he couldn't and so found it hard to care about it. Hope this hopes some and God bless you.

This will sound nieve but I've been reading about some of the procedures used for children with cancer. I did not realize this before? That means that many of those who have been treated fo cancer over the years, children included, as a result of their treaments were left unable to have children. So they fight and make it into recovery only to find out what its cost them. Guess I did not t understand the full impact of cancer.

Some great news! The cancer is still in remission and we are pretty serious about going ahead with the frozen sperm. I think it's a wonderful thing that we were fortunate enough to have heard about this technology before J went through radiation. I can't imagine how it would be now if we didn't have this option.

As i wrote in another post, this is definitely true, it happened to me. I think I was so focused on fighting the cancer that I really did not know if I'd survive or not. So whether or not I could have a family in the future was not my priority. Well i did survive, and now I want a family.
IT's great that people are talking about this now.

Getting back to these posts the other got me thinking and I think we're going to go back and try again. I haven't scheduled the appointment yet, but I came across a website that calls frozen sperm treatments "experimental." Yow. That has an ominus sound. Still we're going to look into it.

Frozen sperm treatments are for cancer patients, even young boys. It's hard to believe that when children get cancer no one until recently has thought about the affects of the chemo and radiation on them.

Does anyone know where I can learn more about the treatment that involves harvesting ovaries before cancer treatmenet and freezing it for the future?
Thank you so much.

going forward with the "experimental" treatment involving J's frozen sperm. I guess they are just trying to be overly cautious to keep everyone realistic.
